Saudi Defense intercepts 3 drones in Riyadh and the Empty Quarter

The official spokesman for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, announced on Saturday that the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces successfully intercepted and destroyed three booby-trapped drones launched by hostile militias in a systematic and deliberate manner to target civilian objects and vital facilities in the Kingdom.

Details of the interception process

Brigadier General Al-Maliki explained in an official statement that air defense systems detected and tracked a hostile drone in the airspace east of Riyadh. The drone was engaged according to the rules of engagement and successfully destroyed before reaching its target. Simultaneously, two other drones were detected flying over the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) region, heading directly toward the giant Shaybah oil field. They were also successfully intercepted and destroyed without any casualties or material damage, thanks be to God.

The strategic importance of the Shaybah field

The targeting of the Shaybah oil field in the Empty Quarter is a desperate attempt to undermine global energy security. This field is one of the world's largest and most important oil fields, located in a remote geographical area amidst sand dunes. It is a cornerstone of high-quality light crude oil production and is operated by Saudi Aramco, which possesses immense technical and logistical capabilities. The success of Saudi forces in protecting this vital facility reflects the high level of capability of the defense systems and the constant vigilance in safeguarding the nation's resources and global energy supplies.

Saudi air defense efficiency

This successful operation underscores the high level of readiness and professionalism of the Saudi Armed Forces in countering various aerial threats. The Kingdom possesses a sophisticated network of early warning systems and interceptor missiles that have repeatedly proven effective in neutralizing ballistic missile threats and explosive-laden drones, thus enhancing security and stability throughout the Kingdom and protecting citizens, residents, and economic facilities from any aggression.

Protecting global energy security

The repeated attempts to target oil facilities are not only an attack on the Kingdom, but also on the lifeblood of the global economy and the security of energy supplies. The Ministry of Defense has emphasized on numerous occasions that it will take all necessary and deterrent measures to protect its territory and national assets, and to stop such cross-border terrorist attacks, in accordance with international humanitarian law and its customary rules.
