Saudi Arabia: Three ballistic missiles and drones destroyed in the Eastern Province and Al-Kharj

The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that the Royal Air Defense Forces successfully intercepted and destroyed three ballistic missiles and three booby-trapped drones launched by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militia, targeting civilian objects in the Eastern Province and the cities of Jazan and Najran, in addition to intercepting a ballistic missile launched towards the city of Al-Kharj.

This qualitative operation confirms the high readiness of the Saudi air defense systems in confronting hostile air threats, as the hostile targets were dealt with with high precision and professionalism, which prevented them from achieving their hostile goals of targeting civilians and populated areas.

Context of escalation and targeting of infrastructure

This attack comes within the context of the Houthi militia's ongoing and systematic attempts to target civilian and economic infrastructure in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Eastern Province holds immense strategic and economic importance, as it is the heart of the global oil industry and home to vital facilities belonging to Saudi Aramco. Therefore, attempts to target these areas are not merely an attack on the Kingdom, but also a direct threat to global energy security and the stability of oil supplies to the international economy.

Saudi air defense efficiency

Saudi forces have once again demonstrated their superior ability to neutralize ballistic missile and drone threats. The Kingdom relies on advanced defense systems, most notably the Patriot system, which has repeatedly succeeded in protecting Saudi airspace from hundreds of missiles and explosive-laden drones throughout the years of conflict. Military experts indicate that the high interception success rate reflects the advanced training and constant vigilance of the air defense forces.

Legal and international dimensions

These indiscriminate attacks targeting cities and civilians constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and its customary rules, and amount to war crimes according to the classifications of international organizations and the Security Council. Such attacks are typically met with widespread condemnation from the international community, including the United States, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and the Arab League, who consistently affirm their support for the Kingdom in its measures to protect its territory, citizens, and residents.

The Saudi Ministry of Defense always emphasizes that it will take all necessary and deterrent measures to protect its territory and national assets, and to repel these hostile attacks in accordance with international laws and norms, to ensure the security and stability of the region.
