The Defense Minister discusses Iranian attacks with the Pakistani Army Chief
His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Defense, met today, Saturday, with Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, in an important meeting that addressed the latest regional developments and current security challenges. This meeting came at a sensitive time for the region, and the two sides discussed in detail the repercussions of the recent Iranian attacks on the Kingdom and ways to deal with them decisively to ensure the security and stability of the region.
During the meeting, His Highness the Minister of Defense affirmed that these discussions are being held within the framework of the Joint Strategic Defense Agreement between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the brotherly Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The two sides discussed the necessary military and defense mechanisms to halt these attacks, which threaten regional security and are detrimental to the stability of the region's countries and their people. They emphasized the need to prioritize wisdom and avoid escalation, which could drag the region into dangerous territory.
The depth of Saudi-Pakistani relations
These talks are of paramount importance given the deep-rooted historical and strategic ties between Riyadh and Islamabad. The Kingdom and Pakistan share a close partnership spanning decades, with military and security cooperation forming a cornerstone of this relationship. Pakistan is considered a strategic ally of the Kingdom, and the two countries have a long history of cooperation in military training, joint exercises, and the exchange of expertise, reflecting a convergence of views on issues facing the Muslim world and common threats.
The importance of joint coordination in light of regional tensions
Observers believe this high-level coordination between the Saudi Defense Minister and the Pakistani Army Chief sends a strong message about the strength of the alliance between the two countries and their ability to form a united front against threats. Activating the joint defense agreements is a necessary step to bolster deterrence, protect vital interests, and secure energy and international shipping lanes that could be affected by any regional tensions.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on the continuation of consultation and ongoing coordination between the military leaders of the two countries, expressing their hope that reason and wisdom would prevail on the Iranian side in a way that preserves the principles of good neighborliness and international laws.
