As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's ongoing humanitarian efforts to serve Islam and Muslims worldwide, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, represented by the Religious Attaché at the Kingdom's Embassy in Djibouti, delivered a gift of premium dates from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the sisterly Federal Republic of Somalia. The handover ceremony took place at the Islamic Solidarity Center, in the presence of a number of diplomatic and religious figures, including the Deputy Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Djibouti, Saeed Al-Qahtani, the Acting Religious Attaché, Saad bin Abdulaziz Al-Sufyani, and the Head of the Council of Scholars in Somalia, Dr. Yusuf Ali Ainte, along with several Somali officials.
Details of the gift and its societal impact
A total of 30 tons of dates were allocated to our brothers and sisters in Somalia, and it is expected that approximately 120,000 people across various Somali regions and districts will benefit from this aid. This initiative is a key component of the Ministry's annual Ramadan programs, aimed at addressing the needs of Muslims and providing this essential food item for Iftar meals during the holy month of Ramadan, thus contributing to easing the financial burden on thousands of families.
A global program reflecting the Kingdom's leadership
This shipment is not an isolated event, but rather part of a massive program undertaken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia called "The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques' Gift for the Distribution of Dates." This global program aims to reach more than 120 countries worldwide and is considered one of the Kingdom's most prominent tools of soft power and humanitarian diplomacy. The program reflects the wise leadership's commitment to strengthening the values of social solidarity and compassion among Muslims, underscoring the Kingdom's leading role as the Qibla of Muslims and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, not only in religious matters but also in relief and social initiatives.
The depth of Saudi-Somali relations
This gift carries profound significance that transcends its material value, underscoring the enduring fraternal and historical ties between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Somalia. The Kingdom has consistently been at the forefront of providing assistance to the Somali people in various circumstances, whether through relief airlifts or sustainable development programs. The timing of this support, just before or during Ramadan, enhances food security for beneficiary families and embodies the true spirit of Islamic brotherhood.
Saudi efforts widely praised
Several attendees and Somali officials expressed their deep gratitude and appreciation for this generous gesture from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince. They affirmed that such initiatives leave a positive impact on the Somali people and reflect the Kingdom's enduring concern for the affairs of Muslims and its keenness to share in their joy during the holy month. They prayed to God to protect the Kingdom and its leadership and to perpetuate its blessings of security and stability.
