Talks between the Saudi and Egyptian foreign ministers regarding Gaza and the region

As part of ongoing coordination and consultation between the two major regional powers in the Arab world, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, met today in Cairo with His Excellency Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Expatriate Affairs. This meeting reaffirms the deep fraternal ties that bind the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Strengthening bilateral relations and strategic partnership

The two sides began their meeting by discussing the distinguished bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and ways to develop and enhance them in various political, economic, and security fields. Diplomatic circles view Saudi-Egyptian relations as a cornerstone of stability in the Middle East, with Cairo and Riyadh representing a pivotal axis for Arab national security. The two ministers emphasized the importance of maintaining the pace of joint coordination to confront the growing challenges facing the region.

Developments in Gaza and the unification of Arab visions

Rapidly evolving regional developments, particularly the dire situation in the Gaza Strip, dominated the discussions. The two ministers explored ways to intensify Arab and international efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire and ensure the sufficient and sustained flow of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people. Saudi Arabia and Egypt share a common vision regarding the necessity of advancing a serious political process leading to a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, while categorically rejecting any attempts to displace Palestinians or liquidate their just cause.

Sudan, Yemen, and Red Sea security files

The meeting also addressed several other pressing issues, most notably the crisis in Sudan, where both sides emphasized the need to preserve the unity of the Sudanese state and its national institutions and to end the fighting. Regarding Yemen and Somalia, discussions focused on ways to support stability and territorial integrity in both countries. These talks are particularly important given the tensions in the Red Sea, as the security of navigation in this waterway is vital to the national security of both Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and to the global economy as a whole.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Saleh bin Eid Al-Hussaini, and the Director General of the Office of His Highness the Minister, Walid Al-Smaeel, which reflects the high level of interest in the outcomes of this official visit.
