Ministry of Energy announces resumption of operations
The Saudi Ministry of Energy announced a major achievement: the successful restoration of full pumping capacity through the East-West pipeline. This announcement follows the Ministry's statement on April 9th, which indicated that some facilities within the Kingdom's energy system were affected by sabotage attacks. These attacks resulted in the loss of approximately 700,000 barrels per day of pumping capacity through this strategic pipeline, in addition to a decrease in production at the Manifa oil field by about 300,000 barrels per day, and a similar impact on production at the Khurais field.
Rapid recovery and superior operational flexibility
Thanks to the high efficiency and rapid response of the national workforce, the technical teams were able to restore full pumping capacity to the East-West pipeline, which has a total capacity of approximately 7 million barrels per day. Efforts also succeeded in fully restoring production from the Manifa field within a very short period. Regarding the Khurais field, the Ministry confirmed that work is continuing at full speed to restore its full production capacity, and an official announcement will be made as soon as all the necessary technical and operational procedures are completed to ensure the safety and sustainability of production.
The strategic importance of the East-West (Petroline) pipeline
is The East-West pipelineone of the world's most vital strategic oil transport arteries. This massive pipeline stretches across the Kingdom, connecting the giant oil fields of the Eastern Province to the strategic port of Yanbu on the Red Sea coast. Its historical and geopolitical significance lies in providing a safe and alternative route for Saudi oil exports to global markets, bypassing potentially volatile waterways like the Strait of Hormuz. Maintaining the flow of oil through this pipeline is a cornerstone of national and global economic security.
The position of the Manifa and Khurais oil fields on the energy map
Similarly, the Manifa and Khurais oil fields are of paramount importance to Saudi Aramco's oil production network. The Manifa field, located in shallow waters, is one of the largest oil fields developed using unique and innovative engineering and environmental technologies. The Khurais field is considered one of the world's largest smart oil fields. Saudi Aramco has demonstrated in past incidents its exceptional ability to rehabilitate and restart these vital facilities in record time after any emergency, underscoring the robustness of the Saudi energy sector's infrastructure.
Positive impact on the local and global economy
This rapid recovery clearly demonstrates the high operational resilience and exceptional crisis management capabilities of Saudi Aramco and the Kingdom’s energy sector. Domestically, this achievement ensures the continued supply of feedstock to local refineries, thus maintaining the stability of domestic supplies. Regionally and internationally, the swift restoration of production and oil flow plays a crucial role in reassuring global markets and preventing sharp fluctuations in energy prices, thereby supporting the growth and stability of the global economy, which relies heavily on the reliability of Saudi supplies.
