Extension of the deadline for correcting the status of wildlife in Saudi Arabia 2024

The National Center for Wildlife Development in Saudi Arabia has announced an extension of the deadline for individuals to rectify the status of the wildlife they own, until June 30, 2024. This decision comes in response to the wishes of many citizens and residents, giving them an additional opportunity to register their wildlife through the “Fitri” electronic platform, thus ensuring their compliance with the environmental regulations in force in the Kingdom and enhancing efforts to preserve biodiversity.

Organizational efforts to protect biodiversity andimprove the conditions of wildlife

This extension is part of a broader strategy adopted by the Kingdom, represented by the National Center for Wildlife Development, to regulate the possession, breeding, and protection of wildlife. These efforts are aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, which places great emphasis on environmental sustainability and the protection of natural resources. Prior to these initiatives, the wildlife sector lacked precise regulation, posing a challenge to efforts to conserve endangered species and combat their illegal trade.

The center launched the “Fitri” platform as its primary digital tool to facilitate the registration and licensing process, enabling the creation of a comprehensive national database of privately owned wildlife. This database contributes to monitoring the health of these organisms, tracking their populations, ensuring a suitable environment for them, and reducing the spread of diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans.

The positive impact of the decision on owners and the environment

The decision to extend the deadline is of paramount importance on several levels. Locally, it gives owners an opportunity to regularize their status and avoid penalties and fines for violating environmental regulations. Furthermore, official registration legitimizes their ownership of the animals and allows them access to support and guidance from relevant authorities regarding healthcare and proper nutrition. This measure not only protects the owner but, most importantly, ensures the well-being of the animal itself.

At the regional and international levels, these regulatory steps reinforce the Kingdom’s position as a leader in wildlife conservation. By regulating the domestic market, Saudi Arabia is effectively contributing to global efforts to combat the illegal trade in endangered animals, in line with its commitments under international agreements such as CITES. The success of this initiative serves as a model that other countries in the region can emulate to strengthen their ecosystems.

Therefore, the National Center for Wildlife Development calls on all concerned individuals to take advantage of this last opportunity and take the initiative to register their wildlife before the deadline expires, stressing that compliance with these regulations is a shared responsibility that contributes to protecting our natural heritage for future generations.
