King Salman Center sets up camp to shelter displaced people in Gaza

As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to support the Palestinian people, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center a new shelter camp in the central Gaza Strip. This vital project will provide safe housing for hundreds of families who have lost their homes and are living in dire circumstances due to the current crisis. The camp includes more than 250 tents equipped to accommodate displaced people.

Urgent response to the effects of the low-pressure system

The establishment of this camp was an immediate and urgent response from the center, in cooperation with the Saudi Center for Culture and Heritage (the implementing partner), to address the catastrophic effects of the recent storm that struck the Gaza Strip. The harsh weather conditions and torrential rains destroyed hundreds of old tents and flooded camps for displaced people, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and making the need for alternative and safe shelter a matter of life or death for many families and children.

The historical context of Saudi support for Palestine

This move is not an isolated event, but rather part of a long history of Saudi support for the Palestinian cause on all levels. This aid falls under the umbrella of the Saudi popular campaign to aid the Palestinian people , launched by the Saudi leadership and which has seen widespread participation from the Saudi public through the "Sahem" platform. These efforts reaffirm the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to standing with the Palestinians in their plight. Saudi Arabia has historically been one of the largest donors of humanitarian and development aid to Palestine, whether through direct government support or through international and UN organizations.

The importance of humanitarian intervention at the present time

This project is of exceptional importance given the critical timeframe in the Gaza Strip, where forced displacement, the harsh winter, and a lack of basic resources have combined to create a complex humanitarian crisis. The new camp will contribute to:

  • Providing physical protection for families from the bitter cold and rain.
  • Preserving the dignity of displaced people by providing special spaces for shelter.
  • Relieving pressure on overcrowded shelters in other parts of the sector.

Beneficiary feedback

The beneficiary families expressed their deep gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, affirming that this support was a lifeline that restored a sense of relative security after their arduous displacement. They noted that Saudi aid consistently reaches those in need during the most critical times, embodying the spirit of brotherhood and solidarity between the two nations and alleviating the harsh climatic and living conditions they face daily.
