Faisal bin Farhan affirms to his Somali counterpart Saudi Arabia's support for his country's sovereignty

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a telephone call today from His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Abdulsalam Abdi Ali, as part of the ongoing consultation and joint coordination between the two brotherly countries.

Saudi Arabia firmly affirms its commitment to the unity of Somalia

The phone call included a clear and unequivocal reaffirmation by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia of its firm and unwavering stance towards the Federal Republic of Somalia. His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the Kingdom's full support for Somalia's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, noting that Somalia's stability is an integral part of the stability of the Arab region and regional security in the Horn of Africa.

This affirmation is in line with the Kingdom’s foreign policy, which is based on respect for the sovereignty of states, good neighborliness, and commitment to international charters that stipulate respect for and non-interference with the national borders of states. This is the position that the Kingdom always adopts in international and regional forums, including the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The importance of stability in the Horn of Africa and security in the Red Sea

During the call, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the region, as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia pays great attention to the security and stability of the Horn of Africa region, given its strategic location overlooking the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which is a vital artery for global trade and for the Kingdom’s national security.

Observers believe that Saudi support for Somalia at this critical juncture reflects Riyadh's keenness to spare the region any geopolitical tensions that could affect international peace and security, especially given the growing challenges facing countries in the region. The stability of Somalia and the extension of its federal government's authority over all national territory are essential pillars for combating terrorism and securing waterways.

Historical relations and shared interests

The two ministers also discussed a number of topics of mutual interest and ways to strengthen the robust bilateral relations between Riyadh and Mogadishu. Saudi-Somali relations span decades, characterized by the Kingdom's continuous developmental and political support for the brotherly Somali people through various crises and transitional phases.

At the conclusion of the call, both sides agreed to continue coordination and consultation on regional and international issues, in a way that serves the interests of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples, and strengthens joint Arab action in facing current challenges.
