The Foreign Minister discusses the refugee issue with the UN High Commissioner in Davos

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met today with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on the sidelines of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's participation in the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland. During the meeting, they reviewed aspects of joint cooperation between the Kingdom and the UNHCR, and ways to enhance humanitarian work to address current global challenges.
Strategic partnership to serve humanitarian work
These discussions come within the framework of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's leading role in humanitarian and relief work at both the regional and international levels. The Kingdom is a key strategic partner of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), actively contributing to UN programs aimed at alleviating the suffering of displaced persons and refugees in various conflict zones around the world. These meetings underscore the Kingdom's ongoing commitment to international conventions and its support for efforts to preserve human dignity and provide decent livelihoods for those affected by disasters and wars.
The Kingdom has a long history of supporting refugees
The relationship between the Kingdom and the United Nations is based on a long history of fruitful cooperation, with Saudi Arabia being one of the world's largest donors of humanitarian aid. Through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, the Kingdom has provided billions of dollars to support infrastructure, health, education, and food security projects in refugee-hosting countries. This meeting in Davos reflects the Saudi leadership's commitment to maintaining high-level coordination with international organizations to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most efficiently and effectively.
The importance of the Davos Forum as a platform for dialogue
This meeting is particularly significant given its timing on the sidelines of the Davos Economic Forum, a global platform that brings together political and economic leaders and decision-makers. The forum's importance extends beyond the economic sphere, encompassing discussions on pressing geopolitical and humanitarian issues. The Saudi Foreign Minister's presence at this gathering presents a crucial opportunity to garner international support for refugee issues and to highlight the necessity of concerted international efforts to find sustainable political solutions to the crises that cause waves of displacement.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the importance of continued communication and joint coordination was emphasized. The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Dawood, and the Advisor to His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Al-Yahya, reflecting the high-level diplomatic interest in this vital matter.
