The foreign minister and his Spanish counterpart discuss relations at Davos 2026

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah , Minister of Foreign Affairs, met today with His Excellency José Manuel Álvarez, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Spain , on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026, held in Davos, Switzerland.
The depth of Saudi-Spanish relations
During the meeting, discussions focused on ways to strengthen the robust bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Spain, which are witnessing remarkable development across various political, economic, and cultural fields. These talks build upon a long history of joint cooperation, as Riyadh and Madrid have been linked by strategic partnerships spanning decades, encompassing vital sectors such as energy, infrastructure, transportation, tourism, and defense.
The Kingdom views Spain as a key European partner, particularly given the significant convergence of views on numerous international issues and Spain's active role within the European Union in supporting just Arab causes. This meeting reflects the keenness of the leadership of both friendly nations to propel cooperation towards broader horizons, serving the interests of both peoples and fulfilling their shared aspirations within the framework of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
Discussion of regional and international issues
The two sides also discussed current regional and international developments and issues of common interest, foremost among them efforts to enhance security and stability in the Middle East. The ministers emphasized the importance of intensifying multilateral diplomacy to address current challenges, including global geopolitical tensions, and the necessity of resorting to dialogue and peaceful solutions to conflicts.
This meeting is particularly significant given its timing and location at the Davos Forum, a global platform that brings together decision-makers to discuss economic and political challenges. The forum provides an opportunity to coordinate positions between the Kingdom and Spain on pressing global issues such as energy security, climate change, and sustainable development—topics that the Kingdom prioritizes on its international agenda.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein, Abdulrahman Al-Dawood, and the Advisor to His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Al-Yahya, reflecting the high diplomatic importance that the Kingdom attaches to this meeting and to its relations with the Spanish side.
