The Saudi Foreign Minister will discuss the Gaza issue and Syrian relations at Munich 2026

As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s intensive diplomatic efforts on the international stage, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, continued his strategic meetings on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference 2026, where he held a series of important meetings that addressed the most prominent hot regional issues, most notably the situation in the Gaza Strip and the future of Saudi-Syrian relations.
Gaza peace talks
His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs began his activities by meeting with the High Representative of the UN Special Coordinating Committee on the Middle East Peace Process, Mr. Nikolay Mladenov. The meeting focused on discussing the latest developments on the ground and the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, as well as reviewing international efforts to achieve lasting stability. This meeting reaffirms the Kingdom's pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian cause and striving to find just and comprehensive solutions that guarantee the rights of the Palestinian people and advance the peace process in the region, particularly in light of the security challenges discussed at the conference.
This meeting was attended by His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ Advisor, Mohammed Al-Yahya, and Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Manal Radwan, reflecting the high level of interest in the minute details of the peace file.
A qualitative development in Saudi-Syrian relations
In a related development, Prince Faisal bin Farhan held an important meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, and his accompanying delegation participating in the conference. The meeting was characterized by its positivity, and the two sides reviewed the historical and fraternal relations that bind the two countries and their brotherly peoples.
Both sides welcomed the progress made, particularly the "comprehensive agreement" in Syria, which represents a strategic turning point in the Syrian crisis. This agreement includes a crucial provision for integrating the self-governing institutions into the Syrian state institutions, a step strongly supported by the Kingdom given its importance in preserving Syria's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Implications of timing and strategic importance
This meeting is of particular importance as it takes place within the framework of the Munich Security Conference, the world's leading forum for discussing international security policies. It underscores the Kingdom's support for the Syrian government's efforts to extend its sovereignty and end the institutional division, which will positively impact Arab and regional national security. Integrating institutions strengthens the Syrian state's capacity for recovery and reconstruction, and closes the door to foreign interventions that exploit the security vacuum.
The two sides also discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and joint efforts to achieve security, stability, and development, serving the interests of the region's peoples. The meeting was attended on the Saudi side by His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Abdullah bin Khalid bin Saud Al Kabeer, Director General of the General Directorate of Policy Planning, underscoring the strategic importance of these discussions in shaping future foreign policy.
