The Foreign Minister discusses relations and recent developments with his Canadian counterpart
His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a telephone call today from Her Excellency Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada. During the call, they reviewed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to enhance them in various fields, in addition to discussing the latest regional and international developments and issues of common interest.
A new phase in diplomatic relations
This contact comes amidst the positive momentum in Saudi-Canadian relations, particularly following the agreement reached in May 2023 to restore diplomatic ties between the two countries to their previous status. This step reflected a desire on both sides to unify diplomatic efforts and strengthen constructive dialogue, paving the way for the exchange of ambassadors and the resumption of full cooperation on numerous vital issues that serve the interests of both nations.
Economic partnership and promising opportunities
The talks between the two foreign ministers are of particular importance given the economic standing of both countries; Saudi Arabia and Canada are active members of the G20. These renewed relations offer broad opportunities for economic cooperation, especially in light of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which opens up significant prospects for foreign investment and international partnerships in the renewable energy, mining, education, and technology sectors. Through these diplomatic initiatives, the Kingdom seeks to diversify its international partnerships in a way that serves its sustainable development goals.
Coordinating positions on regional issues
On the political front, Saudi-Canadian coordination plays a crucial role in addressing complex issues in the Middle East. Discussions on current developments come at a time when the region is facing geopolitical challenges that necessitate concerted international efforts to de-escalate tensions and support peace initiatives. The Kingdom consistently emphasizes the importance of joint diplomatic action to ensure the region's security and stability, a stance that aligns with Canada's support for peaceful solutions and humanitarian efforts.
This contact reflects the keenness of the leadership in both countries to maintain continuous communication and consultation to ensure the development of bilateral relations and to push them towards broader horizons, in order to achieve international peace and security and common economic prosperity.
