The Saudi Foreign Minister discusses the latest developments with his Ethiopian counterpart

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, received at the Ministry’s headquarters in Riyadh today His Excellency Dr. Gedion Timotheos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, in an important diplomatic meeting that reflects the depth of relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the strong bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and discussed ways to enhance and develop them in various political, economic, and security fields, in a manner that serves the interests of both friendly nations. They also discussed the latest developments in the region and a number of regional and international issues of common interest, emphasizing the importance of strengthening joint efforts to establish security and stability.
This visit comes at a crucial time, as the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region witness rapid developments, lending significant strategic importance to Saudi-Ethiopian coordination. Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia are considered cornerstones of stability in the region, with Ethiopia representing a demographic and political force in East Africa, while the Kingdom is leading an active diplomatic effort to promote regional peace and security.
Under its Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia places great importance on deepening its partnerships with African nations, particularly those in the Horn of Africa, given the geographical proximity and deep historical ties that bind the two sides of the Red Sea. Red Sea security and the protection of shipping lanes, along with development and investment initiatives, are among the most prominent issues requiring ongoing coordination between Riyadh and Addis Ababa.
This meeting also reflects the Saudi leadership's commitment to building bridges of diplomatic communication with all influential countries, supporting efforts to resolve conflicts peacefully, and driving development in the region. It is expected that this meeting will open new horizons for bilateral cooperation, particularly given the promising investment opportunities in both countries.
The reception was attended by His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, and His Excellency the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Ambassador Dr. Saud Al-Sati, which confirms the importance that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attaches to this file.
