The Foreign Minister meets his Ukrainian counterpart in Munich to discuss the latest developments
His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met on Friday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Spiha, on the sidelines of His Royal Highness's participation in the Munich Security Conference 2026. This meeting underscores the pivotal role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the international diplomatic stage and its ongoing commitment to effective communication with all key international players.
During the meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them in various fields were reviewed, in addition to discussing regional and international developments of common interest. The two sides focused on discussing developments in the Ukrainian-Russian crisis and international efforts to find political solutions that guarantee security and stability. His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated the Kingdom's support for all efforts aimed at resolving the crisis through dialogue and diplomatic means, in a way that contributes to mitigating its humanitarian consequences.
These talks are of particular importance in light of the current geopolitical circumstances, as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has sought in recent years to adopt a balanced and active foreign policy, which was manifested in its hosting of the Jeddah talks on the Ukrainian crisis, as well as its prominent humanitarian role, which was represented in providing humanitarian and relief aid packages to the Ukrainian people worth more than $400 million, in addition to the success of its previous mediation in prisoner exchange operations, which reflects the political weight of the Kingdom and its credibility with all parties.
The Munich Security Conference, on whose sidelines the meeting was held, is the world's foremost platform for discussing international security policies, bringing together policymakers, heads of state, and ministers to address current and future security challenges. The Kingdom's participation with a high-level delegation headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs reflects Riyadh's commitment to contributing to shaping the global security landscape, discussing the transformations of the international system, and emphasizing the importance of collective action to confront crises that threaten international peace and security.
At the conclusion of the meeting, which was attended by His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ Advisor Mohammed Al-Yahya, the two sides agreed to continue coordination and consultation on the issues raised, in a way that serves the interests of both countries and enhances the chances of peace and stability in the region and the world.
