The Saudi Foreign Minister receives a message from his Iraqi counterpart to strengthen relations

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a written message from His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, Fuad Hussein, concerning ways to strengthen the strong bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, and mechanisms to support and develop them in various fields in a way that serves common interests.
The message was received on behalf of His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs by the Undersecretary for Multilateral International Affairs, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Rassi, during his meeting today at the Ministry's headquarters in Riyadh with the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Kingdom, Safia Taleb Al-Suhail. During the meeting, they reviewed aspects of joint cooperation and discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
This message comes at a time when Saudi-Iraqi relations are witnessing remarkable development and rapid growth on all levels—political, economic, and security. This step reflects the keenness of both countries' leaderships to maintain continuous coordination and consultation on critical issues affecting the region, particularly in light of current geopolitical challenges that necessitate concerted efforts to ensure regional security and stability.
It is worth noting that relations between Riyadh and Baghdad have witnessed a qualitative leap in recent years, culminating in the establishment of the Saudi-Iraqi Coordination Council, which serves as the strategic framework for joint action. This council has resulted in the signing of numerous agreements and memoranda of understanding aimed at enhancing trade, opening up investment opportunities, and implementing electricity interconnection projects, which are vital for Iraq's economic development.
This diplomatic engagement is particularly important given the pivotal role both countries play in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the OPEC+ group, where their coordination contributes to the stability of global energy markets. Furthermore, security and intelligence cooperation between the Kingdom and Iraq is a cornerstone of counterterrorism efforts and the eradication of extremism, thereby enhancing opportunities for development and prosperity for the people of both nations.
Observers emphasize that the exchange of messages and reciprocal visits between officials in the two countries is not merely a diplomatic protocol, but a strong indication of the sincere desire to build a sustainable strategic partnership that transcends past challenges and establishes a new phase of Arab integration, as the Kingdom views the stability and prosperity of Iraq as an integral part of its national security and the security of the Arab region as a whole.
