Centenary of Saudi-Russian relations: Lavrov's message to the Foreign Minister

In a diplomatic gesture reflecting the deep historical ties between the two countries, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a written message from His Excellency Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. This message comes as part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Russian Federation, an occasion that represents a pivotal moment in the Kingdom's international relations.

The message was received on behalf of His Royal Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs by His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, during his meeting today at the Ministry's headquarters in Riyadh with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom, Sergey Kozlov. The meeting included an exchange of cordial greetings on the occasion of the centenary, as well as a review of bilateral relations and ways to enhance them in various fields.

Historical roots stretching back a century

This occasion is of exceptional importance given the historical context of relations between the two countries. Russia (then the Soviet Union) was the first non-Arab state to recognize the rule of the founding King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud (may God have mercy on him) and establish full diplomatic relations with the Kingdom in 1926. This historic step laid a solid foundation for diplomatic engagement that has evolved over the decades to encompass various forms of cooperation and mutual respect for the sovereignty of both nations.

Strategic partnership and global impact

Over the past century, Saudi-Russian relations have witnessed remarkable development, evolving from traditional diplomatic frameworks to influential strategic partnerships on the international stage. This cooperation is clearly evident in the ongoing coordination within global energy markets and the two countries' pivotal role in the OPEC+ group, which has contributed to strengthening global economic stability.

This exchange of messages between the two foreign ministers reflects their shared commitment to continued political coordination on regional and international issues, given the vital roles Riyadh and Moscow play in matters of international peace and security. The centennial celebration underscores that relations between the two friendly nations extend beyond the past, looking towards a future filled with greater investment opportunities and enhanced technical and cultural cooperation, serving the interests of both peoples and strengthening their positions on the global geopolitical map.

During the reception, a number of topics of common interest were discussed, and the importance of investing this historic occasion to push bilateral relations towards broader horizons of fruitful cooperation was emphasized.
