Saudi Foreign Minister discusses strengthening strategic partnership in Washington

As part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met in Washington, D.C., with the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Jim Risch, and his American counterpart, Marco Rubio, during His Highness’s current official visit to the United States.

The meeting with Senator Jim Risch included a comprehensive review of the close cooperation between the two friendly countries, during which key regional and international issues and developments were discussed. Also present at this important meeting were Her Royal Highness Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the United States of America, and Mohammed Al-Yahya, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, reflecting the high-level interest in strengthening communication channels with American legislative institutions.

In a related context, His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs held extensive talks with his American counterpart, Marco Rubio. The two sides discussed the historical and strategic relations between Riyadh and Washington, and ways to develop them in various fields to serve the common interests of the two friendly nations. The talks also addressed in depth the latest developments in the Middle East region, and the international efforts being made to achieve security and stability and reduce regional tensions.

This visit is of paramount importance given the sensitive timing the region and the world are going through, as Saudi-American relations have been a cornerstone of stability in the Middle East since the historic meeting between King Abdulaziz and President Roosevelt in 1945. These talks come to emphasize the depth of the strategic partnership that has spanned more than eight decades, which is no longer limited to security and energy aspects, but has extended to include economic and technological cooperation within the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

Observers believe that the Foreign Minister's meeting with Senate leaders and US administration officials reflects the Kingdom's keenness to maintain coordination and consultation with all decision-making bodies in Washington. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee plays a pivotal role in shaping US foreign policy, making communication with it essential to ensure continued mutual support and a unified vision on complex issues such as combating terrorism, waterway security, and the region's unresolved political issues.

In conclusion, these active diplomatic moves by His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs confirm the Kingdom’s leading role as a regional and international peace-making power, a reliable partner in facing global challenges, and its constant endeavor to formulate common positions that support international security and peace.
