This achievement is part of the national talent empowerment initiative, a key pillar of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to build a sustainable healthcare sector reliant on qualified Saudi professionals.

Official figures reflect the significant progress made, with the number of healthcare practitioners registered with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties exceeding 800,000, indicating a remarkable expansion in the specialized workforce. This growth was not only quantitative but also qualitative, supported by decisive regulatory decisions aimed at localizing healthcare professions and ensuring the sector's sustainability by promoting the participation of qualified Saudi professionals.

Vision 2030: The engine for developing the health sector in the Kingdom

This surge in the number of medical professionals is a key outcome of the Health Sector Transformation Program, one of the executive programs of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. Historically, the health sector has relied heavily on foreign expertise to meet the growing demand for healthcare services. However, the Kingdom’s ambitious vision has set a strategic goal of building national capabilities to lead the sector, not only to meet local needs but also to transform the Kingdom into a leading healthcare destination regionally and internationally. This significant increase in the number of physicians directly contributes to improving public health indicators, reducing waiting times, and increasing patient satisfaction.

Investing in national talent to enhance service quality

The efforts were not limited to increasing numbers, but extended to raising the efficiency of healthcare practitioners and qualifying them according to the highest international standards. These training efforts resulted in the graduation of 5,691 physicians from the Saudi Board programs and other accredited training pathways, injecting new and qualified talent into the healthcare system. To support this direction, approximately 8,400 training positions were made available across various health specialties to accommodate medical professionals aspiring to advance their careers. In terms of continuing professional development, more than 40,000 trainees benefited from the Health Academy's programs, designed to refine professional skills in medical and administrative support fields, ensuring they remain up-to-date with the latest advancements in the medical field.

Specialized approaches for a sustainable financial future

Recognizing the importance of financial and operational efficiency in the sustainability of healthcare services, training programs were expanded to include financial and logistical aspects. A total of 131 national specialists were trained in specialized fields such as healthcare costing and actuarial science. This initiative reflects a forward-looking vision aimed at improving the efficiency of financial resource management and ensuring their optimal utilization. These specialized training tracks were implemented through programs led by the National Health Insurance Center in collaboration with the healthcare sector, to guarantee sustainable financial planning for the entire healthcare system and enhance its ability to effectively and competently address future challenges.
