Saudi aid to Gaza: 24,000 meals and food baskets for those affected
Saudi relief efforts continue in the Gaza Strip
As part of its longstanding humanitarian role, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continues to provide support to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip to alleviate the worsening humanitarian crisis. As part of the Saudi public campaign to aid the Strip, the Center recently distributed urgent food aid, including 24,000 hot meals and 820 complete food baskets, targeting displaced and affected families in the central and southern areas of the Gaza Strip.
The aid included the distribution of 820 food baskets in Khan Younis, benefiting 4,920 individuals from the most vulnerable groups. The center's central kitchen also prepared and distributed 24,000 hot meals in various areas, aiming to provide safe and healthy food for displaced people facing harsh living conditions.
General context: The Kingdom's historical role in supporting Palestine
This support stems from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's longstanding and unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause on all levels. For decades, the Kingdom has consistently provided humanitarian, developmental, and economic assistance to the Palestinian people. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, established in 2015, serves as the Kingdom's primary humanitarian arm, implementing relief projects worldwide, with a particular focus on areas experiencing crises and disasters, including the Gaza Strip, which suffers from a blockade and recurring conflicts that have led to a severe deterioration of the humanitarian situation.
These efforts come at a time when international organizations, including the World Food Programme and the United Nations, have warned of the risk of an imminent famine in the sector, with more than 85% of the population displaced and infrastructure destroyed, making access to humanitarian aid vital for the survival of hundreds of thousands of civilians.
The importance of aid and its expected impact
At the local level, this aid directly contributes to strengthening food security for affected families and providing for their basic food needs, thus helping to prevent the spread of malnutrition, especially among children and women. It also sends a message of solidarity and hope to the besieged population, affirming that their brothers and sisters stand with them in their time of need.
Regionally and internationally, these initiatives highlight the leading role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a key player in humanitarian work in the region. They reflect the Kingdom's commitment to international humanitarian law and the principles of neutrality and non-discrimination in aid provision. These efforts contribute to mobilizing international support and coordinating the global response to the crisis, emphasizing the need to open safe and sustainable humanitarian corridors to ensure aid reaches all those in need in the Gaza Strip.
