Increased awareness of intellectual property in Saudi Arabia and global leadership by 2025

In a new national achievement reflecting the success of the strategic plans of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property announced the results of its 2025 study measuring the level of intellectual property awareness in the Kingdom. This study, conducted in academic collaboration with Umm Al-Qura University, revealed a significant increase in the overall awareness index, with the Kingdom recording 70.7%, surpassing the 65.8% recorded last year and achieving a growth of 7.45% compared to 2024.

Study details and measurement methodology

The study's methodology relied on measuring three main axes to ensure the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the results: the fundamental concepts of intellectual property, the legal and regulatory frameworks, and the practical applications related to protecting these rights. The findings were based on a broad research sample covering all thirteen regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, encompassing diverse demographic segments to ensure representation of all segments of society.

Historical context and Vision 2030

These figures cannot be viewed in isolation from the fundamental transformations the Kingdom has undergone in recent years. Since the establishment of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, the Kingdom has set its sights on transitioning from a resource-based economy to one driven by knowledge and innovation. Intellectual property protection is a cornerstone of this transformation, providing a secure environment for both creators and investors. This increased awareness is the culmination of years of dedicated work to modernize legislation and unify efforts under a single umbrella, further solidifying the Kingdom's position as a global hub for innovation.

Global leadership in the WIPO Pulse report

In parallel with its domestic achievements, the Kingdom has solidified its international standing by achieving record-breaking results in the recently released WIPO Pulse report, which measures intellectual property awareness. The report, which surveyed 35,500 participants from 74 countries, demonstrated the Kingdom's leading position globally, with 80% of respondents in the Kingdom recognizing the vital role of intellectual property in promoting economic growth and stimulating innovation.

Expected economic and investment impact

This progress carries significant economic implications; increased awareness and respect for intellectual property rights are among the most important factors attracting foreign direct investment. Major international companies are always looking for markets that guarantee the protection of their patents and trademarks. Therefore, the Kingdom's leading position in these indicators sends a strong message of reassurance to international investors, contributing to the localization of advanced technologies and supporting local creative industries.

Capacity building efforts and quality initiatives

The Authority affirmed that this progress is the result of a comprehensive strategy that included several key initiatives, most notably the Intellectual Property Clinics, which played a pivotal role in providing guidance and consultations to innovators and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), thereby raising compliance levels. The Intellectual Property Academy also played a prominent role in building national capacity through specialized training programs targeting judges, lawyers, and innovators, ensuring a qualified workforce capable of effectively enforcing and protecting intellectual property rights.
