
Saudi Interior Minister meets with Algerian President to strengthen security cooperation
In the context of strengthening the deep-rooted fraternal relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, and based on the generous directive of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister - may God protect him - His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Interior, met today with His Excellency President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, at the Presidential Palace in the capital, Algiers.
Leadership message and confirmation of deep relations
His Royal Highness the Minister of Interior began the meeting by conveying the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Prime Minister, to His Excellency the President of Algeria, and their wishes – may God protect them – for the brotherly Republic of Algeria, its government and people, for continued progress, prosperity, security, and stability. This visit underscores the keenness of the wise leadership in the Kingdom to extend bridges of continuous cooperation with Arab brothers and to unify visions on issues of common interest.
Dimensions of the visit and the importance of security coordination
During the meeting, the distinguished bilateral relations were reviewed, and aspects of existing security cooperation between the two brotherly countries and ways to enhance it were discussed. These talks are of paramount strategic importance in light of the security challenges facing the region and the world, as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Algeria are considered cornerstones of stability in the Arab world. Cooperation between the two sides typically focuses on vital issues including combating terrorism, addressing transnational crime, and combating drug trafficking, in addition to exchanging expertise in technical and security fields, which strengthens the Arab national security system.
Historical background of Saudi-Algerian relations
Riyadh and Algiers share deep-rooted historical ties spanning decades, characterized by mutual respect and continuous coordination in international and regional forums. The Kingdom has consistently supported Algeria's stability and prosperity, and both countries play pivotal roles in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the League of Arab States, in addition to their ongoing coordination on energy and economic matters. This security meeting further strengthens the strategic partnership and adds a new dimension to the growing cooperation between the two capitals.
High-level attendance
The meeting was attended on the Saudi side by a high-level delegation that included Assistant Minister of Interior Dr. Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al-Falih, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Algeria Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Busairi, Director General of the Minister’s Office for Studies and Research Major General Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Arwan, and Director General of Legal Affairs and International Cooperation Ahmed bin Suleiman Al-Issa.
Also present from the Algerian side were the Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Boualem Boualem, and the Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Mr. Said Saïoud, which reflects the great importance that both parties attach to this meeting and its expected outcomes in strengthening joint security work.
