Khalid bin Salman discusses military cooperation with the Kuwaiti Minister of Defense in Riyadh

In the context of strengthening joint Gulf action and unifying visions towards current challenges, His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Defense, met today in the capital, Riyadh, with his Kuwaiti counterpart, His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Minister of Defense of the State of Kuwait, in an official visit that reflects the depth of the fraternal ties between the two brotherly countries.

During the expanded meeting, the deep-rooted historical relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Kuwait were reviewed. Discussions also focused on bilateral cooperation in the defense and military fields, and ways to strengthen and develop this cooperation to serve the interests of both countries and enhance the capabilities of the Gulf Cooperation Council's defense system. The two sides also addressed the rapidly evolving situation in the region, the efforts being made to contain crises and achieve regional and international security and stability, as well as a number of other issues of mutual interest.

Strategic dimensions and important timing

These talks are of particular importance given their timing, as the region is witnessing geopolitical shifts that necessitate the highest levels of coordination and consultation among the defense leadership of the Gulf states. Saudi-Kuwaiti cooperation is a cornerstone of the Gulf security system, with both sides constantly striving to enhance their readiness and unify their positions regarding potential threats, thereby ensuring the protection of national achievements and the stability of their people.

The Kuwaiti Minister of Defense's visit to Riyadh underscores the continuation of this sound approach of ongoing communication between the leaderships to strengthen the strategic partnership across various sectors, most notably the defense sector, which is witnessing significant development in joint coordination mechanisms.

In a tweet on his official account, His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Salman, Minister of Defense, confirmed the content of the meeting, saying: “I met with my brother, His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti Minister of Defense. We reviewed the brotherly relations between our two brotherly countries, aspects of bilateral cooperation in the defense field and ways to strengthen and develop it, and we discussed the latest developments in the region and the efforts made regarding them.”.

High-level attendance

The meeting was attended on the Saudi side by His Highness Prince Abdulrahman bin Mohammed bin Ayyaf, Deputy Minister of Defense, Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, and Advisor to His Highness the Minister of Defense for Intelligence Affairs, Hisham bin Abdulaziz bin Saif, reflecting the great importance that the Kingdom attaches to these talks.

On the Kuwaiti side, a high-level delegation was present, including the Governor of Al-Farwaniyah Governorate, Sheikh Athbi Nasser Al-Athbi Al-Sabah, the Governor of Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate, the Acting Governor of Hawalli Governorate, Sheikh Sabah Bader Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, and a number of senior officials in the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense.
