The Saudi leadership congratulates Bosnia and Herzegovina on its Independence Day

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, sent a cable of congratulations to His Excellency Željko Komšić, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the occasion of his country's Independence Day. The King expressed his sincerest congratulations and best wishes for continued health and happiness to His Excellency, and for further progress and prosperity to the friendly government and people of Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing the deep-rooted relations between the two countries.

In the same vein, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, sent a similar congratulatory cable to His Excellency President Željko Komšić. His Royal Highness expressed his warmest congratulations and best wishes for continued health and happiness to His Excellency, and for further progress and prosperity to the government and people of the friendly nation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, reflecting the wise leadership's commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties with friendly countries.

Historical background on the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina

This congratulatory message coincides with Bosnia and Herzegovina's celebration of its "Independence Day" on March 1st each year. This day commemorates the historic referendum held in 1992, in which the vast majority of citizens voted in favor of independence from the former Yugoslavia. This day marks a pivotal moment in the modern history of the Balkans, paving the way for international recognition, including by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, of Bosnia and Herzegovina's sovereignty as an independent state with a recognized political entity within the United Nations.

The depth of Saudi-Bosnian relations

The congratulatory messages from the Saudi leadership reflect the strength of the bilateral relations between Riyadh and Sarajevo, which span decades. Saudi Arabia was among the first countries to stand by Bosnia and Herzegovina during its crisis in the 1990s, providing significant political and humanitarian support that contributed to reconstruction and the building of state institutions. Today, relations between the two countries are witnessing remarkable development in multiple areas, including economic, tourism, and cultural cooperation. Bosnia and Herzegovina is a preferred destination for Saudi tourists, and mutual investments are growing, enhancing development opportunities in both countries.

This generous gesture from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince confirms the continuation of the Saudi approach in strengthening the bonds of friendship and mutual respect with the leaders and peoples of the world, and supporting the stability and prosperity of friendly countries on various national occasions.
