The Minister of Sports comments on the postponement of the Saudi Grand Prix

Saudi Arabia's firm stance towards hosting global events

Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Minister of Sport and President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic and Paralympic Committee, affirmed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's unwavering commitment and readiness to host major international sporting events. This statement followed the official announcement of the postponement of the fifth round of the Formula 1 Saudi Grand Prix , which was scheduled to take place at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit from April 17 to 19.

Reasons for the postponement and the decision of the International Federation

The Minister of Sport explained that the decision not to hold the race on its scheduled date was issued directly by the organizing body, namely the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the Formula 1 management. This decision was based on a careful assessment of the current circumstances in the region, which prompted the organizers to take this proactive step to ensure that things proceed as expected.

In a related context, the FIA had officially announced the postponement of the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Saudi Grand Prix, in addition to the Formula 2, Formula 3 and Formula 1 Academy rounds. The official statement confirmed that despite the ongoing search for alternative options, no replacements or alternative races will be held during the month of April.

A history full of successes in motorsports

In response to this decision, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal emphasized in his press statement the Kingdom's full respect for the FIA's decision, sending a clear message to the international sports community that Saudi Arabia was and remains fully prepared to host this major global event. It is worth noting that the Kingdom has an exceptional track record in organizing Formula 1 races, having successfully hosted five previous editions that captivated the world, particularly at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, considered the fastest and most challenging street circuit on the Formula 1 calendar.

Strategic impact and Saudi Vision 2030

The Kingdom's hosting of the Formula 1 championship is an integral part of the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 , which aims to transform the Kingdom into a leading and sustainable global destination in the sports and tourism sectors. The anticipated impact of such events extends beyond mere sporting competition; it encompasses boosting the local economy, stimulating tourism, and showcasing the remarkable urban and cultural development taking place in Saudi cities on both regional and international levels.

Global standards for security, safety and regulation
