National survey to improve the quality of university education and boost employment

In a strategic move aimed at aligning higher education outcomes with the evolving demands of the labor market, the Education and Training Evaluation Commission in Saudi Arabia announced the launch of the second cycle of the “University Education Quality Survey 2026.” This comprehensive national initiative aims to collect accurate data from four key categories: current students, graduates, faculty members, and employers, with the goal of building a strong bridge between academia and the industrial and service sectors.

The initiative's context is within the Kingdom's Vision 2030

This survey comes within the framework of the radical transformations the Kingdom is undergoing as part of Vision 2030, which places human capital development at the heart of its priorities. As the Kingdom seeks to diversify its economy and reduce its dependence on oil, the critical need for qualified national talent with the skills to lead new and promising economic sectors has become apparent. The Human Capability Development Program, one of the Vision 2030 programs, serves as the umbrella for such initiatives, aiming to ensure that citizens possess the capabilities to compete globally by fostering values and developing essential and future-oriented skills.

Survey objectives and its strategic importance

The Education and Training Evaluation Commission explained that the primary objective of the survey is to provide a deep and comprehensive understanding of the relationship between the academic programs offered by universities and the actual skills and competencies required by the labor market. The survey results will be used as a reliable database to support decision-makers in universities and the Ministry of Education in making informed strategic decisions. These decisions include developing curricula, updating teaching and assessment methods, integrating practical and applied training programs more effectively, and enhancing programs for developing students' personal and professional skills.

Expected impact at the local and national levels

The results of this initiative are expected to have a direct and positive impact on several levels. For graduates, it will increase their chances of finding jobs that match their specializations, thus contributing to reducing youth unemployment and increasing job satisfaction. For universities, it will enhance their academic reputation and competitiveness regionally and internationally. On a broader national level, this step will accelerate economic and social development by providing various sectors of the workforce with a national workforce capable of innovation and productivity, thereby supporting the comprehensive national transformation process.

The Authority called on all targeted groups to actively participate in the survey under the slogan “We participate to develop,” stressing that their interaction and opinions represent the cornerstone in building a better future for the higher education system in the Kingdom, and ensuring the preparation of a generation capable of keeping pace with the challenges of the future and contributing to achieving national prosperity.
