Climate variation and the role of the National Center for Meteorology

The list above shows the great variation in temperatures, with the huge difference between Mecca (31 degrees) and Tarif (14 degrees), which reflects the continental nature of the northern regions that are more quickly affected by cold air masses, compared to the coastal and western regions that maintain more moderate and warmer temperatures.

The National Center for Meteorology is the official body authorized to monitor weather and climate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its reports are of paramount importance not only to individuals for planning their daily lives and clothing choices, but also to vital sectors such as aviation, maritime navigation, agriculture, and the organization of tourism and entertainment events. The center relies on a sophisticated network of radars and monitoring stations strategically distributed throughout the Kingdom to ensure accurate forecasts and early warnings of any severe weather fluctuations.

The importance of following weather forecasts

Experts always advise following daily weather forecasts, especially during seasonal transitions, when weather fluctuations and surface wind activity are common and can affect horizontal visibility on highways and in open areas. Knowing the maximum and minimum temperatures helps in taking necessary precautions, whether for general health and avoiding colds, or for planning the camping trips and outings that the Kingdom is known for during such weather.
