Passports: 17,000 decisions issued against violators of residency, work, and border security regulations
The General Directorate of Passports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the issuance of 17,767 new administrative decisions through its administrative committees in various regions of the Kingdom during the month of Jumada al-Thani 1447 AH. These decisions come within the framework of the ongoing security and inspection campaigns carried out by the Ministry of Interior and relevant authorities to apprehend violators of residency, labor, and border security regulations, whether citizens or residents.
Details of penalties and legal procedures
The issued decisions included a variety of penalties commensurate with the severity of the violations committed. Sentences ranged from prison terms of varying lengths to deterrent fines, in addition to the deportation of expatriate violators and their permanent ban from re-entering the Kingdom, in accordance with applicable regulations. This statistic underscores the firmness with which security agencies address any transgressions that undermine the rule of law or threaten public safety.
General context and importance of security campaigns
These efforts are part of a comprehensive strategy adopted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to regulate the labor market and enhance internal security. The “A Nation Without Violators” campaign and other security initiatives are integral to efforts aimed at eliminating negative phenomena related to undocumented workers or those violating border security regulations. Historically, the Kingdom has worked to develop its legislative and technological framework for border control and regulating the presence of expatriates, contributing to the creation of a safe and stable legal environment.
The economic and security impact of apprehending violators
The importance of these decisions extends beyond security considerations to encompass crucial economic and social dimensions. Economically, enforcing labor regulations helps reduce the size of the informal economy and combat commercial concealment, thereby enhancing job opportunities for citizens and legal residents and protecting fair competition in the market. From a security perspective, applying strict penalties to border violators is a fundamental pillar for protecting the Kingdom's borders and preventing the entry of any elements that could pose a threat to national stability.
Strict warnings and reporting mechanisms
The General Directorate of Passports has reiterated its strong warnings to all citizens and residents, including business owners and individuals, emphasizing the serious consequences of transporting, employing, or harboring individuals who violate residency, labor, and border security regulations. It clarified that concealing these violators or providing them with any assistance in housing or transportation exposes the perpetrator to severe penalties, which may include imprisonment, substantial fines, and confiscation of any equipment used in the violation.
The Passports Department called on everyone to cooperate with the security services to report any violations, by calling the unified number for security operations (911) in the regions of Makkah, Riyadh, the Eastern Province and Madinah, or by calling (999) in the rest of the regions of the Kingdom, stressing that all reports are dealt with in complete confidentiality and without the slightest legal responsibility on the person reporting.
