Indonesian pilgrim rescued in Medina: Red Crescent responds in 3 minutes
In a remarkable humanitarian achievement that adds to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's record of serving pilgrims, the Saudi Red Crescent Authority's ambulance teams in Madinah successfully rescued a 61-year-old Indonesian pilgrim who suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest. This incident, which occurred at his hotel near the Prophet's Mosque, was not a routine emergency response, but a race against time that, by the grace of God, resulted in the pilgrim's resuscitation and the restoration of his life.
This incident comes amidst the Kingdom's massive annual efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of millions of pilgrims who flock to the Holy Land from all corners of the globe. The Hajj season is the world's largest annual human gathering, presenting enormous logistical and health challenges. The Saudi Red Crescent Authority, working alongside all other government sectors, operates within a comprehensive and interconnected system aimed at providing the highest levels of emergency medical care. Emergency centers and field teams are deployed throughout the pilgrim areas, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, advanced ambulances, and highly qualified personnel to handle all emergencies, particularly those related to heat exhaustion, chronic illnesses, and cardiac conditions that pilgrims, especially the elderly, may experience.
Details of the rescue operation of an Indonesian pilgrim
The story began when the central operations room (997) received an emergency report about the critical health condition of an Indonesian pilgrim. Immediately, thanks to the intelligent geographical deployment of ambulance teams in the central area, the nearest stationed team was dispatched to the location. The system's records demonstrated exceptional efficiency, as paramedics successfully reached the hotel and attended to the pilgrim within a record response time of just three minutes and one second (3:01), a crucial factor in cardiac arrest cases known as the "golden minutes.".
Upon arrival, the medical team found the pilgrim completely unconscious, with no pulse or breathing. Without delay, the paramedics immediately began administering advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) according to the latest internationally recognized medical standards adopted by the Saudi Red Crescent Authority. Thanks to God, and then to the team's skill and medical equipment, their efforts resulted in restoring the pilgrim's pulse and breathing at the scene, a significant field success.
Maximum readiness to serve the guests of God
After the pilgrim's vital signs stabilized and he passed the critical stage, he was quickly transferred by a fully equipped ambulance to Al-Salam Waqf Hospital in Madinah to complete the necessary medical examinations and receive specialized care. Dr. Ahmed bin Ali Al-Zahrani, Director General of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority's Madinah branch, affirmed that this swift and successful medical intervention reflects the high level of emergency medical preparedness and the intensive operational plans that the Authority implements efficiently and effectively during the Hajj season. This achievement also reflects the Saudi government's commitment to providing the best emergency medical services to pilgrims and visitors to Madinah around the clock, ensuring their safety and preserving their lives.
