Rescuing an Indonesian pilgrim in Medina: Saudi Red Crescent efforts
In a swift medical intervention reflecting the high level of preparedness of healthcare services in Saudi Arabia during the Hajj season, Saudi Red Crescent teams in Medina successfully saved an Indonesian pilgrim who suffered a sudden cardiac and respiratory arrest. The incident occurred in a hotel in the central area surrounding the Prophet's Mosque, and the ambulance teams responded in a record time of less than three minutes, which proved crucial in saving the pilgrim's life.
This incident comes amidst the Kingdom's intensive efforts to ensure the safety and comfort of pilgrims arriving from all corners of the earth. Madinah is a major stop for millions of pilgrims before or after performing Hajj in Makkah, placing a tremendous responsibility on the health and service sectors and requiring exceptional preparations. Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim-majority country, is among the largest senders of pilgrims annually, making the healthcare provided to its citizens a top priority.
Immediate response saves the life of a guest of God
According to Dr. Ahmed bin Ali Al-Zahrani, Director General of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority branch in Madinah, the medical evacuation center received a report about the critical condition of an Indonesian pilgrim. The nearest ambulance team stationed in the area was immediately dispatched to the location. Al-Zahrani explained that the response time was only three minutes and one second, reflecting the high efficiency of the ambulance service network and its rapid deployment in vital areas frequented by pilgrims.
Upon the medical team's arrival, the paramedics immediately began performing advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) according to the latest approved medical protocols. Thanks to God, and then to the team's skill and the advanced equipment in the ambulance, the efforts were successful in restoring the patient's pulse at the scene, before transferring him to Al-Salam Waqf Hospital to complete the necessary medical care and monitor his health condition.
Integrated Saudi efforts: The story of rescuing an Indonesian pilgrim as a model
is not rescue of this Indonesian pilgrim an isolated incident, but rather part of a comprehensive system implemented by the Kingdom's government to serve pilgrims. This system includes extensive operational plans implemented by the Saudi Red Crescent Authority and the Ministry of Health, which deploy hundreds of permanent and seasonal ambulance centers, in addition to field teams on foot, motorcycles, and ambulances equipped with the latest medical technologies in Mecca, Medina, and the holy sites.
The success of such emergency interventions sends a strong message of reassurance to the international community and Islamic countries, affirming that the Kingdom spares no effort in harnessing all its material and human resources to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims. This success also reinforces the Kingdom's reputation as a safe and reliable destination for performing the fifth pillar of Islam and reflects its deep commitment to serving the guests of God around the clock.
