A pilgrim was rescued at the Prophet's Mosque: The Red Crescent intervened within one minute
The ambulance and volunteer teams of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority in the Madinah region recorded a new medical and humanitarian achievement, as they were able - thanks to God - to save the life of a 63-year-old Thai pilgrim, after he suffered a sudden cardiac and respiratory arrest while inside the vicinity of the Prophet’s Mosque.
Details of the race against time to save lives
The incident occurred on Saturday evening when the medical deportation center received an urgent report at 8:08 PM about a pilgrim suffering a critical fainting spell. Demonstrating exceptional readiness and preparedness, the field teams arrived at the scene within just one minute, at 8:09 PM – a record response time that is crucial in such medical emergencies.
Upon the teams' arrival, it was determined that the pilgrim was suffering from complete cardiac and respiratory arrest, necessitating the immediate application of approved medical protocols for critical cases. Medical personnel began intensive cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), with additional support called in to reinforce the on-site medical intervention. These efforts were successful, and the patient's pulse was restored. He was then transferred to Al Safia Health Center for further medical care.
The importance of a rapid response in the Two Holy Mosques
This incident is of particular importance given the geographical location and high population density within the Prophet's Mosque. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia places great importance on the health and safety of pilgrims, and the Saudi Red Crescent Authority has mobilized all its human and technological resources to ensure rapid response to the injured. Reaching the patient within one minute is a strong indicator of the effectiveness of the emergency plans implemented within the Two Holy Mosques and the strategic deployment of ambulance teams covering all vital areas.
Integration between volunteer and emergency work
This achievement highlights the pivotal role played by health volunteers alongside official teams. These trained volunteer teams contribute to reducing response times and providing first aid in the critical first moments of injury, aligning with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 to promote volunteer work and enhance the quality of healthcare services provided to pilgrims and visitors.
Healthcare for pilgrims
This successful intervention is part of a comprehensive system of health services surrounding the Prophet's Mosque, which includes well-equipped health centers, rapid response teams, and advanced ambulances. This incident underscores the importance of promptly reporting emergencies through official channels, as every second counts in saving lives, especially in cases of cardiac arrest that require immediate intervention to prevent serious complications.
