The Saudi national science and engineering team will compete in ISEF 2024 in Los Angeles
The Kingdom's delegation arrives in Los Angeles
The Saudi national science and engineering team, comprised of a select group of talented students, arrived in Los Angeles, USA, to participate in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF 2024). Upon arrival, the team members immediately headed to the fairgrounds to begin assembling and preparing their innovative scientific projects, which will represent the Kingdom at this prestigious global scientific event, the world's largest pre-college science competition.
What is the ISEF International Exhibition?
The Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is a leading global platform that brings together thousands of students from over 80 countries and regions worldwide. These young innovators compete for prestigious awards by presenting their independent research and scientific projects to judging panels comprised of Nobel laureates and experts from diverse scientific disciplines. The fair was established to foster innovation and excellence in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and to inspire the next generation of scientists and thinkers to address global challenges.
History of Saudi participation and its importance
This participation, the Kingdom's eighteenth consecutive year, is a culmination of the efforts of the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) and the Ministry of Education, which work to discover and nurture young national talents. Saudi Arabia has achieved historic milestones in previous editions of the exhibition, with Saudi students winning hundreds of awards. This reflects the quality of the training and development programs they undergo, ranging from the National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity (Ibdaa) to intensive training camps. These successive successes have placed the Kingdom among the leading countries in the field of gifted education.
Reflection on the Kingdom's Vision 2030
The Saudi national team's participation in ISEF 2024 aligns directly with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which prioritizes the development of Saudi human capital. These students represent an investment in a future knowledge-based and innovation-driven economy, less reliant on natural resources. Empowering young people in advanced science fields not only enhances the Kingdom's international competitiveness but also contributes to finding innovative solutions to local and regional challenges in vital sectors such as renewable energy, health, the environment, and artificial intelligence.
Aspirations and hopes
This year's Saudi team comprises 35 male and female students, each with their own unique projects across diverse scientific fields. As the project implementation phase begins, all eyes are on these young people, who carry the hopes of the entire nation, aspiring to achieve new milestones that will add to the Kingdom's impressive record and solidify its position as a leading regional hub for science and innovation.
