The Saudi Foreign Minister and his Syrian counterpart discuss relations and regional developments

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a telephone call today from His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, during which they reviewed the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and ways to enhance them in various fields.

During the telephone conversation, the two sides discussed the latest developments in Syria and the region, as well as the efforts being made to address them in a way that serves the interests of both countries and contributes to strengthening regional security and stability. This call comes within the framework of ongoing coordination and consultation between Riyadh and Damascus on issues of common interest.

The path to resuming Saudi-Syrian relations

This diplomatic engagement comes as part of the normalization process that has witnessed significant progress since 2023, following the decision by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Syrian Arab Republic to resume their diplomatic missions. The participation of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the Arab Summit held in Jeddah in May 2023 marked a pivotal turning point, as the Kingdom affirmed its commitment to Syria's return to the Arab fold and its support for efforts aimed at reaching a political solution to the Syrian crisis that preserves Syria's unity, security, and stability.

Strengthening joint Arab action

These talks reflect Saudi Arabia's commitment to leading Arab solidarity efforts, as Riyadh has emphasized in numerous international and regional forums the necessity of activating a leading Arab role in addressing the crises facing the region. Observers view the intensified communication between the two countries' foreign ministers as a crucial step toward coordinating positions on current challenges, particularly given the delicate circumstances in the Middle East, which demand the highest levels of coordination to prevent further escalation of tensions.

Diplomatic exchange and future prospects

On the diplomatic front, the past period has witnessed practical steps to solidify relations, including the reopening of embassies and the appointment of ambassadors, paving the way for broader cooperation in economic, trade, and humanitarian fields. Through these open channels, both sides seek to address outstanding issues and advance bilateral cooperation, which will positively impact both nations and support the path to recovery and stability in Syria.
