A reckless driver in Riyadh was arrested for using a stolen license plate: Saudi Traffic Department statement

The General Directorate of Traffic in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Riyadh Traffic Department, announced its success in arresting a driver who committed the drifting violation, in an incident that included another legal violation, which was the use of a stolen license plate to disguise and mislead the security authorities.

The Traffic Department explained via its official account on the social media platform “X” (formerly Twitter) that search and investigation teams were able to locate the vehicle and identify its driver, despite his attempts to conceal the vehicle's features using license plates that did not belong to it. The department confirmed that the driver was apprehended, all necessary legal procedures were taken against him, and he was referred to the relevant authorities and the Traffic Commission to apply the deterrent penalties stipulated in the Traffic Law and its implementing regulations.

The dangers of drifting and security efforts to combat it

This operation comes within the framework of the intensive security campaigns launched by the Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Directorate of Traffic, to eliminate the phenomenon of reckless driving, which has long been a major concern for Saudi society due to the fatal accidents and damage it causes to public and private property. Reckless driving is considered a serious traffic violation that endangers the safety of road users, and the Kingdom has worked in recent years to increase the penalties associated with it, including hefty fines, vehicle impoundment, and imprisonment in cases of repeated offenses, with the aim of enhancing road safety.

Legal implications of using stolen paintings

What made this incident even more serious was the combination of the reckless driving violation with another criminal offense: the use of a stolen license plate. Legal experts point out that tampering with vehicle license plates or using plates not belonging to the vehicle is a serious circumvention of the law, often aimed at evading automated traffic monitoring (Saher) or concealing oneself while committing crimes. Security authorities deal very firmly with such cases, as the penalty is not limited to the traffic violation alone, but extends to public and private rights related to theft and forgery.

Enhancing traffic safety and achieving the goals of the vision

These field efforts are part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at reducing road accident and fatality rates in the Kingdom, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which prioritizes quality of life and public safety. Modern technologies and the increased deployment of both plainclothes and uniformed patrols have contributed to improved traffic enforcement, positively impacting the recent decline in serious accident statistics resulting from reckless and irresponsible driving.
