Al-Khuraiji discusses with the Sudanese ambassador the latest developments in the crisis and efforts to resolve it

His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, received today at the Ministry's headquarters in Riyadh, the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dafallah Al-Haj Ali. This meeting comes within the framework of the Kingdom's ongoing diplomatic efforts to closely monitor the Sudanese situation.

During the meeting, a comprehensive review of the current situation in Sudan was conducted, with both sides discussing field and political developments, as well as efforts to contain the crisis and its repercussions on various levels.

Context of the crisis and diplomatic efforts

This meeting comes at a sensitive time for our brotherly nation of Sudan, which has been experiencing armed conflict since mid-April 2023, a conflict that has severely impacted the country's infrastructure and humanitarian situation. Since the outbreak of the crisis, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has played a pivotal and leading role in efforts to bridge the divide and bring the conflicting parties closer together.

The most prominent of these efforts is the hosting by the city of Jeddah of talks between representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, under Saudi-American sponsorship, which aimed primarily to protect civilians, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, and work towards a permanent ceasefire that paves the way for a comprehensive political process.

The Kingdom's humanitarian and strategic role

The Saudi role is not limited to the political sphere; it extends to a wide-ranging humanitarian response. The Saudi leadership, represented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, has directed the establishment of air and sea bridges to transport medical, food, and shelter aid to the Sudanese people affected by the ravages of war, reaffirming the deep fraternal ties that bind the two brotherly nations.

Sudan's stability is of paramount strategic importance to the region, given its crucial geographical location impacting the security of the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa. The Kingdom consistently emphasizes, in international and regional forums, the necessity of preserving Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and stability, and rejects any external interference that could exacerbate the conflict.

The reception of the Sudanese ambassador by Engineer Al-Khuraiji reflects the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ keenness to keep communication channels open and effective, to ensure coordination of positions and support for everything that would restore security and peace to Sudan.
