Al-Khuraiji discusses support for Palestine with the UNRWA Commissioner and bids farewell to the Thai ambassador

As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to support Arab and Islamic causes, His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, received today at the Ministry’s headquarters in Riyadh, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini. This meeting comes at a critical time for the Palestinian territories, necessitating high-level coordination to ensure the continued flow of humanitarian aid.

Discussing the latest developments in the Palestinian territories

During the meeting, a comprehensive review of the latest developments in the field and humanitarian situation in Palestine was conducted. The two sides discussed the significant challenges facing the agency's work under the current circumstances. Discussions focused on efforts to support the Palestinian people and alleviate the recently exacerbated humanitarian suffering, as well as exploring avenues for joint cooperation between the Kingdom and UNRWA to ensure the sustainability of services provided to refugees.

Historical context and the pivotal Saudi role

These discussions are of particular importance given the historical role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as one of the largest donors and supporters of UNRWA since its establishment. The Kingdom has consistently been at the forefront of providing financial and political support to the Agency, enabling it to fulfill its UN mandate of delivering essential services such as education, health, and relief to millions of Palestinian refugees in its five areas of operation. This meeting underscores Riyadh's unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian people's right to live in dignity and its rejection of any attempts to undermine the Agency's work or liquidate the refugee issue.

Strategic importance and impact of the meeting

At both the regional and international levels, this meeting sends a strong message about the need for the international community to unite in protecting civilians and providing safe passage for aid. This Saudi-UN coordination is expected to contribute to mobilizing further international support for the agency, which is facing immense financial and operational pressures, thus strengthening its resilience in the face of successive crises and preserving relative stability in the communities it serves.

Farewell to the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand

In another diplomatic development, His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Waleed Al-Khuraiji, received at the Ministry today the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Kingdom, Darm Boontham, on the occasion of the end of his tenure as his country's ambassador to Riyadh. His Excellency commended Ambassador Boontham's efforts in strengthening and enhancing bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, which have witnessed remarkable progress recently across all economic and political spheres, and wished him continued success in his future endeavors.
