Saudi Arabia at the Arab League: A movement against Iranian interference

On behalf of His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, participated today in the work of the extraordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, which was held via video conference, to discuss current developments and challenges facing Arab national security.

Widespread condemnation of Iranian attacks

The meeting witnessed a unified and firm Arab stance against foreign interference in Arab affairs, with the Council condemning in the strongest terms the blatant Iranian attacks on several Arab countries. The participants denounced the direct targeting of innocent civilians, the endangerment of vital and economic infrastructure, and the violation of the sanctity of diplomatic missions, all of which constitute a clear breach of international conventions and norms that guarantee the protection of diplomats and civilians alike.

A delicate regional context and growing challenges

This emergency meeting comes at a sensitive time for the Arab region, as security and geopolitical challenges intensify. Historically, the Council of the League of Arab States has been the primary platform for coordinating common Arab positions in the face of external threats. The convening of this extraordinary session reflects a profound understanding among member states of the gravity of the situation and the necessity of formulating a collective stance that goes beyond statements of condemnation to concrete steps that safeguard the sovereignty of Arab states and preserve their stability.

The importance of the meeting and its expected impact

This diplomatic activity is of paramount importance on several levels:

  • Locally and regionally: The meeting underscores the leading role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in guiding joint Arab action and its constant efforts to unify ranks in the face of schemes aimed at destabilizing the region. It also sends a message of reassurance to the Arab peoples that there is a political will to confront these dangers.
  • Internationally: The outcomes of this meeting represent a clear message to the international community and the Security Council about the need to assume their responsibilities towards the practices of the Iranian regime and its proxies in the region, and to exert pressure to stop these violations that threaten international shipping lanes and global energy supplies, and not just the security of Arab countries.

Strengthening joint Arab action

His Excellency Engineer Waleed Al-Khuraiji discussed with his Arab counterparts ways to strengthen mechanisms for joint Arab action, ensuring the achievement of regional security and stability. It was emphasized that Arab security is indivisible, and that any threat to the security of any Arab state is a threat to the entire Arab national security system.

It is worth noting that, in addition to His Excellency the Deputy Minister, the Director General of the General Department for Asian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Al-Ghanoum, attended the meeting, reflecting the great interest that the Kingdom attaches to this vital file.
