Saudi Arabia weather: Cold wave and frost to hit 8 regions tomorrow

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia announced important weather forecasts indicating that the Kingdom’s atmosphere will be affected by a severe cold wave, the actual effects of which will begin tomorrow. The official spokesman for the center, Hussein Al-Qahtani, revealed details of the upcoming weather situation, which will bring with it a noticeable and sharp drop in temperatures in several regions.
Details of the areas affected by the cold wave
According to reports, the cold wave will directly affect the northern and northwestern regions of the Kingdom. Al-Qahtani explained that minimum temperatures will range from 3 degrees Celsius to -1 degree Celsius in the regions of Tabuk, Al-Jawf, the Northern Borders, Hail, and the northern part of the Madinah region . These areas are the most vulnerable to cold air masses due to their geographical location.
The warning was not limited to the north only, but the official spokesman indicated that the impact of the wave would extend to include the Qassim region, the northern parts of the Riyadh region, as well as the northern parts of the Eastern Province, where these areas are expected to record temperatures ranging between 4 degrees Celsius and 1 degree Celsius, which calls for taking the necessary precautions.
The climatic context and nature of winter in the Kingdom
This cold snap is part of the typical weather fluctuations during winter in Saudi Arabia, where the country is usually affected by polar air masses originating from the northern hemisphere, passing through the eastern Mediterranean or Siberia. The northern regions of the Kingdom are characterized by their open desert terrain and high elevation, making them more susceptible to cold waves than coastal or southern areas. Frost often forms in the early morning hours during these cold spells.
The importance of warnings and safety procedures
Due to temperatures dropping below freezing in some areas, the National Center of Meteorology stressed the importance of citizens and residents adhering to public safety guidelines. These warnings are of utmost importance to avoid the dangers associated with cold waves, which include:
- Using heating appliances: Be careful when using coal or kerosene heaters in enclosed spaces to avoid suffocation or fires, and make sure the place is well ventilated.
- Safe driving: There is a possibility of frost forming on outer roads in the early morning hours, which may cause vehicles to skid.
- Public health: It is necessary to wear heavy winter clothing, especially for children and the elderly, to avoid colds and seasonal illnesses that become active with the drop in temperature.
The National Center of Meteorology continues to monitor the weather situation and update forecasts based on current data, calling on everyone to follow official channels to obtain accurate information about the weather.
