Saudi Arabia weather: Dense fog in Al Qunfudhah and Al Lith, and thunderstorms
The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued an urgent alert this morning, warning of unstable weather conditions affecting the coastal areas of the Makkah region. The center explained in its report that the governorates of Al-Qunfudhah and Al-Lith are experiencing a sharp decline in horizontal visibility, reaching near-zero levels, with visibility ranging between only 1 and 3 kilometers, due to dense fog covering these areas and the adjacent coastal regions.
The National Center of Meteorology specified the timeframe for this weather condition, indicating that it would begin at 1:00 AM and continue until 8:00 AM on Saturday. This warning comes as part of the ongoing monitoring of weather conditions to ensure the safety of citizens and residents, especially those traveling on highways and coastal roads connecting the region's governorates, where fog poses a significant obstacle to traffic and requires the utmost caution.
Saudi Arabia weather forecast and thunderstorms
In a related development concerning the Kingdom's overall weather conditions, the meteorological report not only warned of fog but also included forecasts of widespread thunderstorms of varying intensity. The center indicated continued chances of thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong winds that could stir up dust and sand, potentially leading to flash floods in some valleys and ravines.
These rain forecasts cover large parts of the Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha regions, extending to the highlands of the Makkah region. There remains a chance of rain in parts of the Riyadh, Qassim, and Eastern regions, as well as parts of the Northern Borders and Al-Jawf regions, reflecting a state of atmospheric instability affecting most of the Kingdom.
The importance of warnings and safety guidelines
These warnings are of utmost importance given the nature of the affected areas, as the governorates of Al-Qunfudhah and Al-Lith are vital coastal regions with heavy traffic. The relevant authorities, including Civil Defense and Highway Patrol, urge drivers to adhere to speed limits, use fog lights, and maintain a safe distance between vehicles to avoid traffic accidents, which are common in such weather conditions.
This report reflects the tireless efforts of the National Center for Meteorology in monitoring climate changes and issuing early warnings, which effectively contributes to raising the level of preparedness of service and security agencies to deal with any emergency, and to protect lives and property in light of the weather fluctuations that the region is witnessing during this season.
