Saudi Arabia's weather today: winds, dust, fog, and the end of winter

The National Center for Meteorology issued its daily report on weather conditions in various regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, indicating the continuation of weather fluctuations characterized by active surface winds and low horizontal visibility in several regions, coinciding with the approach of the end of winter astronomically.
Weather conditions and active winds details
The report indicated the continued impact of active winds stirring up dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility across large parts of the Northern Borders, Al-Jawf, Tabuk, and Hail regions. These effects also extend to the eastern parts of the Madinah and Makkah regions. This weather pattern is a result of variations in atmospheric pressure, which contribute to active surface winds—a common phenomenon during seasonal transitions.
Chances of fog and rain formation
Conversely, the center warned that conditions remain favorable for dense fog during the night and early morning hours, which could lead to near-zero horizontal visibility in the coastal areas of Makkah, Asir, and Jazan regions, as well as parts of the Eastern Province. The report also did not rule out the possibility of light and scattered rain in the northern parts of the Kingdom, creating a humid, wintry atmosphere before the seasonal transition.
State of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf
Regarding sea conditions, the report indicated that surface winds over the Red Sea will be southwesterly to northwesterly in the northern part, and southeasterly shifting to southwesterly in the central and southern parts, with speeds reaching 32 km/h and wave heights ranging from half a meter to one and a half meters. In the Arabian Gulf, winds will be northwesterly to northerly, with sea conditions ranging from slight to moderate.
End of winter and temperature changes
In a related development, the official spokesperson for the National Center for Meteorology announced that winter will officially end in the Kingdom in 12 days. He noted via his official account that this winter was warmer than usual in some cities, with large areas not experiencing the typical harsh cold. He attributed this to the greater concentration of cold air masses over the northern and central regions. He added that with the gradual rise in temperatures currently being experienced across the Kingdom, particularly along the coasts, we are preparing to bid farewell to winter and welcome the transitional spring weather.
The importance of caution
This unstable weather condition calls on drivers on highways and open roads to exercise caution, especially in areas with heavy dust or fog, in order to maintain public safety and avoid traffic accidents resulting from low visibility.
