Saudi Arabia weather: Rain in Asir and weather warnings for several regions

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued weather indicating expectations of moderate rainfall with potential impacts ranging from flash floods to hail in parts of the Asir region. The center explained in its daily report that this weather pattern will continue until 8:00 PM this evening, urging citizens and residents in those areas to take precautions.

Weather details for the Asir region

According to the meteorological statement, the rainfall is concentrated particularly in the governorates of Rijal Alma and Mahayil , where it is expected to be accompanied by strong winds leading to near-zero horizontal visibility, in addition to the possibility of thunderstorms and hail. These warnings come as part of the ongoing monitoring of the weather fluctuations affecting the southwestern highlands of the Kingdom during this period.

The rainy weather extends to other areas

The weather forecast is not limited to Asir; the National Center for Meteorology's report also indicates continued chances of thunderstorms accompanied by active winds and hail in parts of Jazan, Al-Baha, and Makkah , with the effects extending to the southern parts of the Madinah region. These areas are characterized by mountainous terrain, which contributes to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds and seasonal rainfall.

Geographical and climatic context of the southern highlands

The southern and western highlands of Saudi Arabia, particularly the Asir region and the Sarawat Mountains, possess unique climatic characteristics that distinguish them from the rest of the Kingdom's arid desert climate. The high terrain intercepts moist winds originating from the Red Sea, resulting in heavy rainfall and flash floods. These characteristics make monitoring weather forecasts crucial for the safety of those traveling on mountain roads and residents of valleys, given the rapid formation of these flash floods.

Wind and dust activity in other areas

Regarding the rest of the Kingdom, the Meteorology Department warned of active surface winds stirring up dust and sand, which may reduce horizontal visibility in the eastern parts of the southwestern highlands, as well as in parts of Najran, Riyadh, Qassim, Hail, Al-Jawf , and the western parts of the Northern Borders region. The report also did not rule out the possibility of scattered light rain in parts of central Saudi Arabia, urging everyone to adhere to safety instructions while driving in dusty or rainy conditions.
