Saudi Arabia weather: Rain expected in Riyadh, Mecca, and the Eastern Province starting Wednesday

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia announced expectations that the Kingdom’s atmosphere will be affected by a new rainy weather system, starting from Wednesday evening and continuing until Thursday, covering a wide area of regions, indicating the continuation of the weather fluctuations that the country is witnessing during this season.
Weather details and affected areas
According to data issued by the center and outputs from numerical climate models, the rainfall will be characterized by varying intensities, ranging from light to moderate and potentially heavy in some geographical areas. This weather pattern is expected to be concentrated primarily in the southwestern highlands, encompassing large parts of the Asir, Al-Baha, and Jazan , with its effects extending to the Makkah .
The forecast also indicated that rain clouds would extend to cover parts of the Qassim , in addition to the northern and western parts of the Riyadh , reaching as far as the Eastern Province , which calls for caution and vigilance while traveling on the highways linking these governorates.
Climate context and the importance of monitoring
This weather pattern is part of the seasonal changes occurring in the Arabian Peninsula, where the region is typically affected by low-pressure systems and humid air currents that contribute to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds. These rains are particularly important as they help irrigate vegetation and replenish groundwater; however, they also necessitate public awareness of the risks of flash floods, especially in mountainous areas and on steep slopes.
The relevant authorities in the Kingdom, represented by the National Center for Meteorology and Civil Defense, are working in continuous coordination to monitor weather developments and issue early warnings to ensure the safety of lives and property. This is an approach followed to deal with rainy conditions that may lead to water accumulations in some locations.
Safety guidelines and technologies used
Given these forecasts, the National Center of Meteorology stressed the importance of citizens and residents staying updated on the latest weather conditions. The center urged everyone to utilize available modern technologies, such as the official "Anwaa" app, which provides accurate and real-time information on cloud movement and precipitation chances, as well as to follow official accounts on social media platforms.
It is also advised during these weather conditions to stay away from flood channels and valleys, avoid low-lying areas, and drive with extreme caution due to the possibility of reduced horizontal visibility caused by rain or dust accompanying active winds at times, in order to preserve public safety and in compliance with the instructions of the competent authorities.
