Saudi Arabia weather: Heavy rain, flash floods, and strong winds expected until Sunday
The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued an important and urgent weather alert for the coming days, warning of severe weather fluctuations including thunderstorms of varying intensity across most regions of the Kingdom. This active weather system will begin tomorrow, Friday, and continue until next Sunday, urging citizens and residents to take precautions.
Details of the weather conditions and associated phenomena
According to the center's report, the rainy weather will be accompanied by several significant weather phenomena, most notably strong downdrafts that will stir up dust and sand, with gusts expected to exceed 60 km/h. The report also indicated a high probability of hail, flash floods in valleys and ravines in some areas, and a significant rise in wave height along the coast, which could affect maritime navigation and fishing activities.
Areas covered by heavy and moderate rainfall
The National Center for Meteorology has identified the regions that will experience the most significant weather fluctuations, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall in Tabuk, Al-Jawf, the Northern Borders, Hail, Al-Qassim, and Madinah. This includes vital governorates and centers such as Neom, Tayma, Haql, Al-Wajh, Umluj, and Duba in the Tabuk region, as well as Sakaka and Dumat Al-Jandal in Al-Jawf, and Arar and Rafha in the Northern Borders. The forecast also extends to Buraidah, Unaizah, and Ar-Rass in Al-Qassim, and Yanbu, Khaybar, and Badr in Madinah.
The effects of the weather system on Riyadh, Mecca, and the Eastern Province
The forecast extends beyond the northern and western regions to include the capital, Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and the Makkah region, where light to moderate rainfall is expected. Riyadh and several of its governorates will be affected, as well as Hafr Al-Batin, Jubail, Dammam, and Al-Ahsa in the Eastern Province. In the Makkah region, the weather system will impact the Holy City, Jeddah, Rabigh, and Khulais, urging caution for motorists traveling on highways between these cities.
The importance of adhering to instructions and digital transformation in meteorology
These warnings come as part of the Kingdom's efforts to protect lives and property, given that flash floods and water accumulation are natural hazards requiring a high level of public awareness. In this context, the center urged everyone to follow updates through the "Anwaa" app and official social media platforms.
The accuracy of this report reflects the significant development witnessed by the meteorological system in Saudi Arabia, which relies on the latest monitoring and satellite technologies to provide accurate information that contributes to supporting decision-making, whether for government agencies or individuals, to ensure optimal handling of rainy conditions and avoiding danger zones.
