Today's weather forecast: Thunderstorms and fog in Saudi Arabia

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued weather for Wednesday, indicating continued weather fluctuations across several regions. The report stated that the chance of thunderstorms with rain and active winds that may stir up dust and sand remains, potentially reducing horizontal visibility in some areas.
Areas affected by rain and thunderstorms
According to meteorological data, the rainy weather is concentrated over the southwestern and western highlands. The forecast includes parts of the Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha , extending to the highlands of the Makkah and Madinah regions. This weather pattern is a result of the high humidity and rising air currents characteristic of the topography of these mountainous areas (the Sarawat Mountains), making them prone to the frequent formation of cumulonimbus clouds during this time of year.
Fog and reduced visibility
The weather forecast not only predicted rain, but the center also warned of dense fog during the night and early morning hours. The fog is expected to cover parts of the highlands in the aforementioned regions (Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, Makkah, and Madinah), as well as parts of the Eastern , the Northern Borders the Hail, Al-Jawf, and Tabuk regions . Fog is a weather phenomenon that requires extreme caution from drivers on highways and open roads due to reduced visibility.
State of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf
Regarding the state of the water bodies, the report described the movement of winds and waves as follows:
- Red Sea: The northern and central parts will experience northerly to northwesterly winds, while the southern part will have southeasterly to southwesterly winds, with speeds ranging from 15 to 30 km/h. Wave heights will range from half a meter to one meter, with sea conditions ranging from slight to moderate.
- Arabian Gulf: Surface winds will be southwesterly, turning northwesterly at a speed of 10-25 km/h, with wave heights ranging between half a meter and one meter, and a light sea state.
Special alerts for the Makkah region
The National Center for Meteorology issued an advanced warning for the Makkah region regarding light rainfall, beginning at noon and continuing until 8:00 PM. The warning covers the governorates of Al-Lith, Adham, Maysan, Taif, Al-Ardiyat, and Al-Qunfudhah. This rainfall will be accompanied by surface wind activity, reduced horizontal visibility, and the possibility of thunderstorms. Authorities consistently urge caution and vigilance in such conditions, advising residents to stay away from wadis and floodplains.
