Abha president: Promotion to the Roshan League is not our main goal this season

Abha FC continues to deliver impressive performances in the Saudi First Division League (Yello League), currently sitting atop the standings with 27 points after 12 rounds. This resurgence is reminiscent of the strength of the "Leader of the South" and its determination to overcome the setback of relegation from the Saudi Professional League last season. This upward trajectory in performance is not a coincidence, but rather the result of intensive administrative and technical work aimed at restructuring the team to become a sustained contender, not just a fleeting participant in the competition.
Building strategy before the rise
In a candid and realistic interview with the Okaz newspaper, club president Saad Hamed Al-Ahmari made a surprising statement, declaring that "promotion is not our goal" in the current board's first year. This statement, which may seem shocking to fans eager for a swift return to the top flight, reflects a profound strategic vision based on sound foundations rather than haste that could lead to counterproductive results. Al-Ahmari explained that the current focus is on building a comprehensive operational system, and that promotion will naturally follow this work if the team continues on the same path. He also pointed out that the league is still long and full of dramatic twists and turns.
Financial balance and governance of different games
In discussing financial and administrative organization, Al-Ahmari addressed the issue of suspending certain sports at the club, emphasizing that the decision was based on thorough economic feasibility studies. This approach aligns with the Saudi Ministry of Sports' strategy, which prioritizes financial efficiency and sustainability. The club president pointed out that significant spending on sports that do not generate revenue and lack clear support is a drain on the club's resources. He stressed that the suspension is temporary, pending the availability of sponsors and supporters to ensure the continuation of these sports without impacting the football budget, the club's mainstay.
Winter contracts and infrastructure file
Regarding upcoming moves in the winter transfer window, Al-Ahmari confirmed that the administration operates according to precise performance indicators, and that any new signings will be subject to rigorous technical and financial criteria to ensure the desired contribution. He also addressed the club's stadium crisis, explaining that the inability to play at the club's facilities stems from their failure to meet the league's technical requirements. This issue requires government support and substantial budgets for infrastructure development, forcing the team to play away from its home ground—an additional challenge facing the club and its fans.
A message to the fans and the media
Al-Ahmari concluded by emphasizing that the club's doors are open to the media and fans, denying any neglect and stressing that the current phase requires the concerted efforts of everyone—administrators, players, fans, and businessmen—to support the club's progress. He pointed out that fan attendance, despite its fluctuations due to match timings, remains a crucial factor in achieving victories, pledging to continue working to ensure Abha occupies the position it deserves, befitting its rich history in Saudi football.
