Saudi Arabia weather today: Thunderstorms and dust-raising winds

The National Center for Meteorology issued its daily weather Tuesday, indicating the continuation of unstable weather conditions across most regions of Saudi Arabia. The report forecasts continued thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds that will stir up dust and sand, potentially reducing horizontal visibility in large parts of the Northern Borders, Eastern Province, Riyadh, Qassim, Hail, Madinah, and Makkah regions.

This weather pattern is part of the seasonal changes the Kingdom experiences, periods typically characterized by active surface winds and the formation of cumulonimbus clouds. The National Center for Meteorology's reports are of paramount importance in guiding citizens and residents, especially drivers on highways and open roads, to exercise caution while driving in conditions of reduced visibility or rainfall, highlighting the vital role of weather monitoring in maintaining public safety.

Rain and fog forecast

The report indicated that the sky will be partly cloudy with scattered rain clouds, and there is a chance of light rain over parts of the highlands of Al-Baha, Asir, and Jazan regions. The center also did not rule out the formation of fog during the night and early morning hours over parts of the highlands of these regions, as well as parts of Tabuk and the Eastern Province, which necessitates caution when traveling in mountainous and coastal areas.

State of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf

Regarding the maritime conditions, the report indicated that surface winds over the Red Sea will be northwesterly to northerly in the northern and central parts, with speeds ranging from 12 to 42 km/h, while in the southern part they will be southerly to southeasterly, reaching speeds of up to 55 km/h towards the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Wave heights will range from half a meter to two and a half meters, resulting in rough sea conditions towards the strait.

In the Arabian Gulf, the winds will be southerly to southeasterly at a speed of up to 50 km/h with the formation of thunderclouds, which will lead to waves rising to more than two meters in the northern and central parts, and the sea state will be from light to moderate waves and will become rough during thunderstorms.

Special alerts for the Eastern Province

The National Center for Meteorology issued advanced warnings for the Eastern Province, where parts are expected to experience dust storms and moderate rainfall. The dust storm is expected to begin in Qaryat Al-Ulya from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, accompanied by strong winds and near-zero horizontal visibility (1-3 kilometers).

The forecast also includes moderate rainfall from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM in Al-Khafji, Al-Nu'ayriyah, Qaryat Al-Ulya, and Hafr Al-Batin. This rain may be accompanied by hail, strong downdrafts, and thunderstorms, requiring residents to stay away from water accumulations and valleys and to follow Civil Defense instructions to ensure their safety.
