Saudi Arabia weather statistics 2025: Jeddah rain and Al-Ahsa heat

The National Center for Meteorology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia revealed the comprehensive statistical report on the climate conditions witnessed in the Kingdom’s regions during the year 2025, highlighting the great variation in weather phenomena that ranged from heavy rainfall to severe heat waves, reflecting the diverse geographical nature of the Kingdom.

Details of rainfall and its geographical distribution

Official data released by the center, based on a wide network of advanced monitoring stations, showed that the average total rainfall across the Kingdom reached 58.6 mm. More specifically, the Asir region received the highest rainfall, averaging 103.7 mm, consistent with its mountainous terrain and more rainy climate compared to other regions. In a notable event, the coastal city of Jeddah recorded the highest single-day rainfall, reaching 137.8 mm, a figure that reflects the intensity of rainfall events that can affect coastal areas during transitional weather seasons.

Wide temperature variation between the north and east

Regarding temperatures, 2025 saw vast temperature variations, highlighting the Kingdom's expansive geography and diverse topography. The lowest temperature recorded was in the northern border region of Tarif, reaching -5 degrees Celsius, reflecting the influence of cold air masses on the northern regions. Conversely, the highest temperature of the year was recorded in the eastern region of Al-Ahsa, nearing 50 degrees Celsius at 49.9 degrees, underscoring the hot, continental nature of the eastern and central regions during the summer.

Early warning and public safety system

The report not only documented the numbers but also highlighted the center's operational efforts, noting that 35 significant weather events were monitored throughout the year. In response to these events, the center issued 2,484 weather alerts covering all regions of the Kingdom. These alerts are of paramount importance in supporting public safety, as security and service agencies, such as Civil Defense and Traffic Police, rely on them to take proactive measures to protect lives and property and to regulate traffic during critical weather conditions.

The strategic importance of climate data

These accurate statistics come at a time when the Kingdom is witnessing a growing focus on climate and environmental issues within the framework of Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative. Accurate climate data is a cornerstone of urban planning, supporting the agricultural sector, and enhancing the efficiency of infrastructure projects to make them more resilient to climate change. Through this report, the National Center of Meteorology reaffirms its commitment to transparency and to providing reliable information that supports decision-makers, researchers, and the general public.
