Meteorology: Winter in Saudi Arabia ends in 11 days and spring begins

The National Center for Meteorology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its official spokesman Hussein Al-Qahtani, announced the start of the countdown to the official end of winter, as only 11 days remain to bid farewell to this season, after which the journey of gradual rise in temperatures will begin, heralding the entry of the transitional spring season.
An exceptionally warm winter, warmer than usual
In the announcement, Al-Qahtani explained that the current winter season has been characterized by unusual climatic features, being classified as "warmer" compared to normal annual averages. Residents of many Saudi cities and provinces have noticed a significant moderation in the weather, to the point that some areas have not experienced the severe cold waves they are accustomed to at this time of year.
The official spokesperson attributed this weather phenomenon to the exclusive and historical concentration of cold air masses over the northern and central regions of the Kingdom, which formed a natural barrier that prevented these waves from deepening and having a strong impact on the rest of the country, especially the coastal and southern regions.
Features of the upcoming transitional period
With winter set to end in less than two weeks, the Kingdom is preparing to welcome spring, a transitional period characterized by rapid weather changes. This period typically sees overlap between seasons, with daytime temperatures rising while cooler nights persist in some areas. Therefore, citizens and residents should closely monitor weather forecasts.
Climate context and its effects
This period holds particular significance for weather experts and the public alike, as the transition from winter to spring marks a shift in daily life, from clothing choices to outdoor activities. Historical climate data for the Kingdom indicates that early spring may be characterized by increased surface wind activity or the formation of cumulus clouds at certain times, as part of the transitional season's features.
Current climate indicators have already detected the beginning of a noticeable rise in temperatures, coinciding with the retreat of cold waves, as coastal areas have already begun to bid farewell to winter weather, which bodes well for moderate spring weather in the coming days.
