Indian pilgrim whose heart stopped was saved in the Prophet's Mosque in Medina

A remarkable medical success within the precincts of the Prophet's Mosque

In a remarkable medical achievement reflecting the efficiency of the healthcare system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a specialized medical team at the Heart Disease and Surgery Center in Madinah successfully saved the life of an Indian pilgrim in his sixties. The incident began when the pilgrim suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while inside the Prophet's Mosque. Emergency medical teams on site immediately intervened, providing rapid treatment and administering an electric shock that, by the grace of God, restored his heartbeat before he was transported to the hospital.

Rapid intervention and emergency cardiac catheterization

The Madinah Health Cluster explained that the patient was transported by ambulance to the Heart Center in extremely critical condition after suffering from acute ventricular fibrillation. Upon arrival, the medical team immediately began managing the emergency case, placing the patient on a ventilator to stabilize vital functions and complete urgent medical interventions. The cluster added that the medical team performed an immediate emergency cardiac catheterization, which revealed a dangerous blood clot obstructing the main coronary artery of the heart. Thanks to divine providence and the skill of the doctors, the artery was opened and a stent was implanted, which contributed to stabilizing blood circulation and a significant improvement in the patient's condition. The ventilator was then removed, and treatment continued.

Modern technologies: Your Hajj travel companion project

After his health stabilized, the Indian pilgrim left the medical center in good health to complete his Hajj rituals. To ensure his continued well-being, he was enrolled in the "Hajj Companion" project, which provided him with a smartwatch that allows for round-the-clock monitoring of his health. This procedure is carried out in cooperation with the virtual health hospital, which monitors the patient's vital signs in real time and connects beneficiaries directly with medical staff, thus enhancing response times and ensuring a safe and reassuring journey for pilgrims.

The Kingdom's historic efforts in serving the pilgrims

This event highlights the broader context and historical background of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's efforts in serving the pilgrims. For decades, the Saudi leadership has prioritized the health and safety of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, with the Ministry of Health dedicating all its human and material resources and equipping hospitals and health centers with the latest medical technologies to provide free care to pilgrims. These accumulated efforts have made the Saudi healthcare system a global model for crowd management and the provision of superior medical care in record time.

The impact of digital transformation on health in line with Vision 2030

At both the regional and international levels, this achievement reflects the significant positive impact of digital transformation in the Saudi healthcare sector, aligning with the goals of Vision 2030. The use of wearable technologies, such as smartwatches, and their integration with virtual hospitals for remote monitoring of pilgrims, represents a paradigm shift in the concept of preventative and curative healthcare. This development not only saves lives but also enhances the international community's confidence in the Kingdom's ability to organize Hajj seasons with the highest standards of health and safety, leaving a positive impression on millions of Muslims worldwide.
