The scouting program for environmental protection kicks off in Riyadh on Wednesday

The Saudi Arabian Scouts Association is preparing to launch its "Scout Program for Environmental Protection" next Wednesday, February 11th, at King Salman National Park in the Banban area, north of Riyadh. This strategic initiative aims to translate theoretical concepts of environmental awareness into tangible and sustainable field practices, with broad participation from young people affiliated with the scouting movement.
Keeping pace with the national vision and green initiatives
This program is not a fleeting event; its significance stems from its alignment with the massive environmental movement underway in Saudi Arabia. It is perfectly aligned with the goals of Vision 2030, which prioritizes the environment as a key component of quality of life. Furthermore, the program directly supports the "Green Saudi Arabia" and "Green Middle East" initiatives, which aim to increase vegetation cover, reduce carbon emissions, and combat desertification and land degradation, reflecting the commitment of national institutions to contributing to global climate challenges.
Promoting educational values and social responsibility
In a statement regarding the occasion, the Secretary-General of the Association, Dr. Abdulrahman bin Ibrahim Al-Mudaires, affirmed that this program embodies the national and educational role of scouting in serving the community and the environment. He explained that the goal extends beyond mere planting, aiming to instill positive behaviors and strengthen the sense of social responsibility among young people. He noted that the initiative seeks to create a sustainable impact through practical, field-based activities implemented in integrated partnerships with various sectors.
Broad strategic partnerships
The program features a wide range of governmental and community partnerships to ensure its success, and is implemented in collaboration with:
- Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.
- Riyadh Municipality.
- National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification.
- Ministry of Education.
- The General Organization for Technical and Vocational Training.
Field activities and sustainable impact
The program plan includes a range of practical activities, such as planting seedlings suitable for the local environment and scattering seeds in targeted locations to enhance biodiversity. In addition to fieldwork, awareness and educational programs will be implemented to raise environmental awareness among all segments of society and promote a culture of preserving and protecting natural resources from encroachment, thus ensuring their sustainability for future generations and achieving the desired ecological balance.
